The lymphatic system is the body's natural filtration system, crucial for maintaining overall health. It transports waste products, excess fluid, toxins, and pathogens from tissues toward the lymph nodes, where they are filtered and cleansed before being reintroduced into the bloodstream or excreted.
Closely linked to immune function, the lymphatic system produces white blood cells in the lymph nodes. These cells act as the body's natural defenders, identifying and neutralising bacteria, toxins, and other harmful pathogens to fight infection and disease.
Swelling and inflammation are common after surgery and play a vital role in the healing process. However, when inflammation persists too long, proteins like fibrin (which helps close wounds) may not dissolve as quickly, leading to excess collagen buildup and the formation of adhesions. This can cause the lymphatic system to become sluggish and congested, slowing recovery.

What is Post-Op MLD?

Using specialised techniques such as Fluoroscopy-Guided Manual Lymph Drainage (FG-MLD) – the Fill & Flush method – and Brazilian Manual Lymph Drainage (BMLD), we employ gentle, rhythmic strokes in a specific sequence along lymphatic pathways to clear blockages and activate lymphatic vessels. This optimises the drainage of toxins, pathogens, and excess fluid, reducing swelling, enhancing immune function, and accelerating recovery.
In addition to hands on therapy, devices such as the LymphaTouch or Deep Oscillation Therapy, may be used to enhance treatments.
Following surgery you may be advised to have a course of MLD treatments and wear compression garments to get the best possible outcome.  Advice can be given as to where to seek the most appropriate garment. In between treatments, you will be encouraged to manage your progress with the aid of body brushing, special balls and exercises given during the treatment.

How Scar Therapy can help you!

A prolonged inflammation phase during wound healing can result from various factors, such as poor diet, inadequate hydration, and a lack of movement. Additionally, interference with or removal of lymph nodes, trauma (which directly impacts the initial lymphatics), and excessive scar tissue (which can reduce lymphatic flow by up to 50%) all contribute to decreased lymphatic function.

The noticeable effects of this include retained swelling, fluid retention, a sluggish feeling, prolonged recovery, reduced medication absorption efficiency, and increased stress on scars—leading to heightened itching, redness, and a greater risk of hypertrophic scarring.

Reduce Pain and Discomfort

Fluid retention and prolonged swell can be very uncomfortable and painful at times.  Post-Op MLD will aid in reducing this efficiently. When combined with Scar therapy we also address pain associated with issues like trapped nerves, delayed healing and adhesions.

Improve Mobility

Movement is essential for the optimal functioning of the lymphatic system, but an excess buildup of fluid, particularly around the joints, can restrict this. Through MLD we can reduce swelling, allowing for improved movement and increased flexibility.

Enhance Scar Appearance

Stimulating and maintaining the lymphatic system helps reduce bloating, eliminate toxins (leading to clearer skin), and support tissue elasticity. Thus, enhancing the colour, texture, and contours of your body, helping you feel more confident.

Restore Sensation

Many people with scars experience numbness or altered sensation including hypersensitivity. Our therapies focus on restoring normal sensation in affected areas, promoting a better connection with your body.

Boosts Emotional Wellbeing

You may feel as though you've been examined and treated by medical professionals without consideration for the person inside. Through therapeutic touch, we seek to reconnect with the person within and help them re-emerge. Additionally, we provide self-care guidance, empowering you to take an active role in your recovery.

Supports Post-Op Recovery

Scar therapy plays a crucial role in post-operative care, assisting in lymphatic drainage and reducing swelling, which in turn should minimise the development of adhesions and excessive scar tissue formation.

Pricing & Packages

Generally, more than one treatment is required to get the desired results. However, it is hard to say exactly how many you may need. The quantity and frequency of treatments depend on a number of factors, such as the age of the scar and other issues it is causing.
With this in mind, as well as “pay as you go”, two other packages are available, both offering great value for money. All treatments last one hour.

Single treatment:
£120

Book a 90 minute pay as you go session.

6 for 5:
£600

Get 6 treatment for the price of 5, plus get a FREE Body Brush

How does it work?

By using specialised FG-MLD and Brazilian MLD practices we are able to address the associated issues relating to post-op lymphoedema.  It is recommended that a course of treatments in close succession is needed for optimal results.  These can begin from as quickly as 3-7 days post-surgery, initially spaced approximately 3 days apart before progressing to longer durations between treatments. Up to 6-8 sessions may be necessary.  Please note that we never encourage fluid to exit a wound site.

This pain-free approach offers a range of benefits, including:

  • Improved Immune System: Effectively removing debris, waste products, toxins, and pathogens from the body.

  • Reduction in Fluid Retention and Bloating: By manually stimulating the opening of lymphatic vessels, reducing swelling and discomfort.

  • Revitalized Sense of Self: Alleviating sluggishness and helping you feel more energized.

  • Better Uptake of Medication: Clearing blockages and stimulating white blood cell production, improving the effectiveness of treatment.

  • Enhanced Movement: Reducing swelling around joints, making it easier to move and increasing flexibility.

  • Shorter Recovery Times: With enhanced immune function, improved mobility, and more efficient medication absorption, recovery is quicker and more effective.
