What is Red Light Therapy?

Red and near-infrared light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate activity within the body's cells, this supports its natural repair processes. In simple terms, the light provides a signal that helps cells carry out their normal functions, including producing the energy they need to repair and maintain tissue. This is very different from LASER devices, “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation” can be strong powerful single beams that target specific cells and can potentially damage eyes and tissue. Whereas LED (Light Emitting Diode) devices such as the Photizo device used at Scar Therapy Brentwood, cover a larger area, can emit various wavelengths and cause no risk to the eyes or tissue.

How does it work?

The Photizo Skin Care device combines Red light which is visible and generally targets more superficial tissues and Near-infrared light that is invisible to the eye and can penetrate further into tissue, depending on the wavelength and treatment conditions. But supporting the body's natural healing processes, rather than replace them, potential benefits include:

  • Supporting healing: Helps stimulate cellular processes involved in tissue repair.

  • Managing inflammation: May help regulate the body's inflammatory response.

  • Supporting circulation: May improve local blood flow, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients to the treated area.

  • Relieving discomfort: May help reduce pain in certain conditions.

  • Supporting skin repair: May assist wound healing and tissue recovery when used appropriately.

The Photizo device is safe to use for acute and chronic conditions, over open wounds, during early stages of Post Op healing, on people with pacemakers or metal implants, during pregnancy (but not on the torso) and with Cancer patients.
